Is this you?

Built for one kind of household.

It's for you if

  • You live in Grosse Pointe Shores, Farms, Park, Woods or the City, with kids at home.
  • You think you're contributing enough to your 401(k), but you aren't sure.
  • You're still paying student loans and can't tell whether the extra money should go to the loans or to retirement.
  • You've heard you should have life insurance, and you have some through work, but you don't know whether you need more or how much.
  • You want a coordinated plan done for you. You're too busy, or you'd rather not figure it out alone.

It isn't if

  • You want stock picks or someone to beat the market.
  • You prefer to do everything yourself, don't take advice well, and won't act on the advice you're given.
  • You already have an advisor who does detailed financial planning, and you're satisfied with the service.
  • You're already retired and living off the accounts. That's a different plan with a different fee. Call and I'll point you to it.

Why this exists

You're already doing the hard part.

You make good money and you work hard for it, and you're growing a family at the same time. You have a handle on things, and it's working. It could be working a lot better, and you know it, but there's never time to dig in.

Your attention goes back where it belongs: your family, your leisure and your work.

It all works fine, right up until it doesn't.

A death, a job loss, a market crash, a disability. That's when the gaps show up, and by then they're expensive. The Roadmap finds them first.

Step one, free

The free hour, and the One-Page Plan.

Book a time below. I'll call you that day for ten minutes and send a secure link for your latest retirement statement, last year's tax return and your mortgage statement. Insurance policies too, if you can find them.

I do the work before we meet. You leave with a concrete list of steps to improve your finances, in order, with dollars attached where they can be counted. It's yours to keep, whether you work with us or take it to your own professionals.

You also get my verdict: whether working with us makes sense, or whether you should keep doing what you're doing.

If you say yes

Twelve months. One plan.

Most advisors hand you a plan and a list of people to call. Then it sits in a drawer. Here, the planning, the mortgage, the return and the coverage are handled under one roof, or alongside the professionals you already have.

The goal is to take as little of your time as possible and put the heavy lifting on the firm. Before each meeting you get a short task list and a questionnaire, and we do everything that doesn't need you. Meetings are short and to the point. Evenings, weekends and odd hours are fine. Your part: send the documents once, answer the questions we hand you, show up when a meeting needs you.

Plan.
Tetra Wealth ManagementThe firm you engage for the financial planning itself. It also acts as an investment adviser, offering investment management to its clients. Moving assets is not required for the Roadmap.
Lend.
Tetra Home LoansA mortgage brokerage with wholesale pricing from many lenders instead of one bank's rate sheet, which is why the rate is often lower than a retail quote.
File.
Tetra TaxTaxes are the biggest cost you can control, and they touch every investment and retirement decision you make. Tetra Tax prepares and files returns for our clients.
Insure.
Tetra Insurance AgencyMore than 100 insurance companies, compared on price, on what the policy actually covers, and on how each company handles claims: how fast they pay and how often they push back. Re-shopped when the market moves, not just the day a policy is sold.

The planning fee covers the plan, and investment advice is part of it. Having the firm manage your assets is a separate service with its own fee, and moving assets is never required. Lending, tax preparation and insurance are separate, optional, and offered through Tetra's affiliated companies, which earn commissions on those services.

An example schedule, starting in October

This is an example, not the plan. The order is set by what you need first, and the scope is your whole financial life, not just what's listed here.

October to December: the sweep

The heaviest stretch, and where most of the dollars get found.

  1. Insurance review. Every policy, priced and compared.
  2. Mortgage analysis. PMI, property taxes, the refinance number.
  3. Budget waste audit. Subscriptions, fees, forgotten renewals.
  4. W-4 fix and year-end tax moves. Before December 31.
  5. Investment triage. What you own, what it costs, what's missing.
  6. Benefits and open enrollment. Health plan, HSA, the match.
  7. Your Financial Book, first edition. See below.
  8. Day-90 statement. What the sweep found, in dollars, in writing.

The Financial Book

Every account, policy and loan, where it is and who to call. The will, the trust, the beneficiaries and the powers of attorney, checked against each other. Where the passwords live. And a first page for the person who didn't handle the money, so if something happened to you tomorrow, your spouse opens one thing and knows what to do. Refreshed every year. Yours to keep.

January to September: one theme a month

The themes, in brief. Each month goes a lot deeper than a line on a page.

January
Cash flow. Where last year's money went, what this year's is for, savings automated.
February
Tax season starts early. Documents in, return under way, no April scramble.
March
Return filed. Withholding reset so next April is a non-event.
April
The plans at work. Fund lineup, the match, Roth or pre-tax, contribution rate.
May
Coverage. Life and disability sized to the household, umbrella, home and auto re-quoted.
June
Mid-year investments. Is the mix still right, what are you paying in fees, and does anything need to move.
July
Financial Book refresh. Estate documents, beneficiaries, the inventory.
August
The kids. 529s funded and invested right, a real number for college to plan around, and trusts where they make sense.
September
Mortgage and debt. Rate check, refinance math re-run, payoff strategy.
October
Annual review. Net worth then and now, and the sweep again for year two.

Life doesn't wait for the calendar.

A new baby, a bonus, a job change, an inheritance, a layoff, or the itch to move and buy a bigger house. When it happens, it goes to the top of the list, whatever month it is.

The terms

The price, and the guarantee.

The twelve-month program

$6,000

$3,000 to start, $3,000 at month six.

The Tetra Value Exceeds Fee Guarantee

If at any point you don't believe the value you've received exceeds the fee, say so. You will be refunded, no questions asked.

Or month to month

$600

Per month. No term.

Cancel any time, no obligation to continue. Paying monthly costs $1,200 more over the year and doesn't carry the guarantee.

For scale: a household with $600,000 invested pays about $6,000 a year to an advisor charging the usual 1%, and gets the investment account managed. Financial planning often isn't included. The Roadmap is the same money for the whole plan, and your accounts stay where they are.

Everything is yours to keep.
The plan, the Financial Book, every document and every recommendation. If you leave, it all goes with you.
Four new families a month.
That's the capacity to do this properly. The first ninety days are heavy, so I don't take more than four.
No asset transfers required.
Your accounts stay where they are unless you decide to move them.

David and Danielle Rakecky with their son

Who's asking

I live here too.

I'm David Rakecky, CFP®. I live on Lakeshore with my wife Danielle and our new son.

I've spent my career looking for the waste and the inefficiencies in a household's finances: the fee nobody questioned, the policy nobody re-shopped since the day it was sold. Seeing the same things over and over is why I started my own firm. The goal is to make your life easier and get you the services you actually need, and none you don't.

You deal with me directly. Whatever can be done for you, I do, including the phone calls to chase down information and the back and forth with the professionals you already have.
